The educational objective of the Department of Sports and Physical Education is to develop students' human abilities so they can contribute to "health for all," by equipping them with the rich humanity and advanced expertise and practical abilities they will need as instructors to support people's—and particularly adolescents'—competitive sports activities safely and scientifically, with maintaining and promoting good health as the basic principles.
The department also offers courses for obtaining junior and senior high school teaching licenses (for health and physical education), and for obtaining the basic qualifications needed to be trainers and
specialized sports instructors (application pending for accreditation).
These courses provide students with a unique curriculum that will equip them with the practical abilities to provide more effective and scientific support, as well as the advanced expertise as trainers who handle sports injuries or support training, or as coaches or other instructors in competitive sports settings.
For this reason, the department is looking for people who have aspirations like those in the following, and a strong sense of purpose toward achieving them:
1 |
People who are interested in competitive sports activities, and aspire to be athletes or instructors who have an abundance of human abilities and the expertise and practical skills needed to improve people's competitiveness in a safe and scientific manner. |
---|---|
2 |
People who are interested in the physical care, conditioning, etc. of athletes, and aspire to be instructors who have an abundance of human abilities and the expertise and skills needed to support athletes. |
3 |
People who are interested in physical education in schools, and aspire to be instructors who have an abundance of human abilities and the expertise and practical skills needed to safely instruct children in physical education and sports activities. |
The department offers a diverse range of curriculum content related to competitive sports activities, including improving competitiveness, handling sports injuries and teaching sports skills. Based on this, we hope our students have the knowledge and skills that will be useful in physical education and sports settings. The admission
examinations assess candidates in terms of their knowledge and skills, ability to think, make judgments, and express themselves, and attitude toward independently learning by cooperating with a variety of people.
In order to achieve the above educational objectives and diploma policy, the department will systematically deploy the following 10 subject groups as "specialized education subjects." For the lower school years, together with understanding each individual student's learning situation through small-group education, it will establish specialized basic practice-based subjects in order to better link the general and specialized education subjects. For the specialized, comprehensive class-based subjects for learning how to provide instruction for adolescents' physical education and sports activities and for specialized, competitive sports activities, and for learning how to
prevent and handle sports injuries, the department will develop practical subjects with instructional methods as the main content in parallel with the basic knowledge gained through lecture-based subjects, and in addition to this, systematically and sequentially deploy related exercise- and practice-based subjects.
In addition, to enable students to take subjects in a more specialized and effective manner for the fields they want and choose, depending on their individual future plans, the department will also set up the following three study model courses: "Competitive Sports Course," "Trainer Course," and "Sports Education Course."
